Many of my patients will ask, which is better for me: Semaglutide or Tirzepatide? The question beckons some considerations regarding, cost, efficacy and medical conditions. If insurance covers both medications and both are readily available (I will not dare mention the drug shortage), I would say Zepbound (Tirzepatide) hands down. It is the newer, better drug boasting more weight loss sans many side effects. If cost is an issue, compounded semaglutide is competitive costing $300 for 7 weeks in our program including visits, meal plans, recipes and workouts. Both medications offer promising results for patients struggling with type 2 diabetes and obesity. However, their mechanisms of action, efficacy, and side effect profiles present unique considerations. Class: Dual GLP-1 and GIP Receptor Agonist
Tirzepatide is a novel medication that acts as both a GLP-1 and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. This dual action is believed to offer enhanced benefits in glucose control and weight loss.
